X-ray CT Solutions for Lithium-Ion Battery Production


In the structure of a lithium ion (Li-ion) battery, build quality is directly linked to safety. Good build quality leads to fewer defects in service and therefore improved safety. Poor build quality can cause a serious accident. Manufacturers must establish a more reliable quality control system.

There are many challenges in the Li-ion battery manufacturing process. The assembly processes are very complex, and there is a risk that there will be internal defects in each process. Therefore, quality control is required in each process.

X-ray CT inspection is useful for solving problems. However, up until now, both CT image acquisition and reconstruction were slow and could not be used inline. This 60-minute Webinar examines a CT solution that provides fast, inline inspection. Its unique capabilities include a microfocus rotating target, helical CT, half turn CT, and offset CT, which allow many assembly processes to be quickly inspected including electrode condition, delamination, deformation, overhang measurement, foreign matter contamination, and welding defects.
