Using Thermoplastics on EV Battery Enclosures/Structures to Improve Weight, Performance, Safety

Battery packs are the heart of electric vehicles. Today, the industry is challenged to remove weight from these systems, while boosting performance and minimizing damage from collisions.

This 60-minute Webinar reviews the challenges involved in battery pack optimization and considers the potential of thermoplastic materials to help address them. It also examines novel engineering solutions for structural battery components (such as covers, trays, module housings, and crash-protective side members) using flame-retardant thermoplastics and plastic-metal hybrid designs. These solutions can be 30 to 50 percent lighter than incumbent materials, open up new opportunities for functional integration, improve thermal management, and increase energy density by up to 15 percent.

An audience Q&A follows the technical presentation.
