Rugged Computers Feature Embedded 3G Wireless
Panasonic Computer Solutions (Secaucus, NJ) has introduced two rugged Toughbook® computers: the CF-19 convertible tablet PC, and the CF- 30 clamshell notebook.
Both come equipped with Intel Core Duo processors, additional security features, and optional embedded access to next-generation wireless data networks from all major cellular wireless carriers. The MILSPEC- certified notebooks incorporate daylight-readable screens and rugged features such as magnesium alloy cases, sealed keyboards and ports, flexible internal connectors, and shock mounting. The CF-19 features an 80-GB hard disk drive, 512 MB of SDRAM expandable to 4,096 MB, an optional external USB combo drive, and a bright 550-Nit (candelas per square meter) screen with a lowreflection coating. The CF-30 features an 80-GB or 60-GB hard disk drive, 512 MB of SDRAM expandable to 4,096 MB, and a 1,000-Nit LCD, delivering the brightness of a fixed-mount display in a portable computer. It is designed for law enforcement, first responders, military, field service, and mobile personnel in all industries who are required to use computers in direct sunlight. Both computers also feature backwards compatibility with existing vehicle mount solutions for previousgeneration Toughbooks.
The notebook and tablet are constructed of magnesium alloy and include shockmounted screens and hard drives. With battery life of about six hours, they are certified to the MIL-STD-810F standard, and tested to withstand drops, shock, vibration, and extreme temperatures. They are sealed and rated at IP54 for water and dust resistance. Other certifications include UL1604 Class 1/Div. 2. Touchscreens allow for ease of use in vehicle-mounted environments, and multiple wireless options such as WLAN, WWAN, GPS, and Bluetooth are available. Both computers are equipped with a cable lock slot, Trusted Platform Module (TPM v1.2) security chip, and feature optional fingerprint scanner. The CF-30 also can be configured with an optional SmartCard reader.
