Safe, Inexpensive Way to Propel CubeSats

A team at Purdue University has developed a safer and inexpensive way to propel small satellites.

Finding inexpensive solutions for propelling CubeSats is one of the most critical components of the rapidly growing industry of commercial launches of satellites the size of a loaf of bread. Researchers have created a novel micropropulsion system for CubeSats using a liquid fed pulsed-plasma thruster.

The innovation addresses current challenges including short operational lifetimes, contamination risks, and cost.
