Thermoelectric Cooler
Nextreme Thermal Solutions (Durham, N.C.) offers the OptoCooler™ HV37 module, a high-voltage, thin-film thermoelectric cooler (TEC). At 85°C, the OptoCooler HV37 can pump 4.5 watts or 107W/cm2 of heat in a footprint of 6 mm2. The device is 0.6mm high. At 85°C, the TEC creates a temperature differential of up to 60°C between its hot and cold sides. It operates at a maximum voltage of 7.7V, making the cooler compatible with commonly found board-level currents and voltages. At 25°C, the device can create a differential of up to 50°C with a maximum voltage of 5.9V. The RoHS-compliant cooler is manufactured using gold-tin (AuSn) solder, which enables assembly temperatures as high as 320°C.
