MWIR Folded Zoom Lens

MKS Instruments, Inc. (Andover, MA) recently announced the Ophir ®LightIR 16-180mm MWIR f/3.6 continuous zoom lens, the newest addition to the LightIR family of lightweight, long-range, motorized continuous zoom lenses. The LightIR 16-180mm f/3.6 is a compact, thermal imaging lens optimized for smaller size 10μm pitch VGA FPA (focal plane array) detectors. It features a folded optics design that makes the lens 65% smaller than existing MWIR (medium wave infrared) 10μm VGA lenses. This makes it suitable for use in small gimbal thermal imaging applications, including drones and tactical UAV IR cameras as well as micro-/mini-tactical payloads in the commercial, homeland security, and defense markets.

DC-DC Converters

Murata (Smyrna, GA) recently introduced several new non-isolated DC/DC converter lines for distributed power architecture applications. The UltraBK™, MonoBK™, and PicoBK™ series were developed to provide small size, high efficiency, decreased noise, low EMI, and take up less board space. The newest is the UltraBK™ line, comprised of the MYTNA and MYTNC series. Both use patented technology to provide an ultra-thin, high-efficiency package. The expanded MonoBK™ series now includes the MYMGK-H line. Featuring high-heat resistance, it drastically cuts down on both board space and design time. Finally, the PicoBK low-power offering integrates an inductor with a control IC for applications where space is at a premium, such as with wearable devices.

Spectrum Processing Platform

Mercury Systems, Inc. (Andover, MA) recently launched the ground-breaking Rappid™ spectrum processing platform, a modular open system architecture designed to dramatically accelerate the development of a wide range of electronic warfare (EW), signal intelligence and software-defined radio applications. Current EW systems are typically designed and developed with custom hardware, firmware, and software. As new technology becomes available, each new design requires new software development from scratch. In contrast, Rappid empowers system developers to run the same software and firmware on different hardware implementations, enabling quick upgrades across a broad range of EW systems in order to deliver operationally relevant capabilities when and where they are needed.
