Crane Aerospace & Electronics, Power Solutions, will be supplying flight critical power electronics for the new COMAC C919 family of narrow body aircraft being built in China. COMAC is an acronym for the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. It is a short-medium range commercial trunk liner that will feature a substantial amount of indigenous intellectual property. Its all-economy class layout entails 168 seats, and the hybrid class layout will feature 156 seats. The basic version is designed to cover a range of 4,075 km, while the enhanced version can stretch to 5,555 km. Its economic life is designed to be 90,000 flying hours, or 30 calendar years.

Crane’s ELDEC® Power Conditioning Modules (PCM) will provide flight critical and reliable power management and conversion for the AVIAGE SYSTEMS Cabinet Computing Resource (CCR) supplied to COMAC. Crane’s PCM selects, conditions and applies the proper power source to the CCR. It provides isolation between the aircraft power systems and the CCR avionics modules. The PCM input filter removes aircraft transients and provides reliable source power for the avionics while powering the cabinet fan and control valve.

Established in March 2012, AVIAGE SYSTEMS is a 50/50 joint venture between General Electric Company (GE) and Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC). The company innovates and brings to market superior high-value solutions and services in fully integrated, open architecture avionics for the next generation of commercial aircraft programs, such as the COMAC C919.

Crane Aerospace & Electronics, Power Solutions, will also be supplying ELDEC® Power Conditioning Modules (PCM) to provide flight critical and reliable power management and conversion for the Honeywell Flight Control Electronics (FCE) being supplied to COMAC. The FCE is part of the flight control fly-by-wire system that will be utilized on the COMAC C919 family of narrow body aircraft. Fly-by-wire systems enable an electronic interface between the cockpit and the aircraft flight control surfaces.

In this application, Crane’s PCM selects the proper source, conditions and supplies uninterruptable power to the FCE. To ensure availability of power under all conditions, the PCM can select from three independent power sources. It provides isolation between the aircraft power systems, removes transients and provides reliable power for this critical equipment.
