C40 Heatsink System

Ohmite Manufacturing (Arlington Heights, IL)recently introduced their high performance C40 Heatsink System with modular cooling benefits. Designed to provide engineers with a variety of cooling options, the C40 heatsinks feature flexible board mounted modular assembly that can be used in conjunction with up to four TO-247 and TO-264 power resistors, or similarly packaged passive and active components. These 58mm heatsinks can be used individually or in compact paired configurations. Patented camming clips (sold separately) easily secure the devices in place without the need for holes or screws. In order to create active cooling and enhance their thermal capacity in back-to-back paired operations, the C40 heatsinks include pre- configured mounting holes to accommodate a standard 40mm x 40mm fan.

Modular Backplane System

Molex Incorporated (Lisle, IL) has announced a high-performance connector system designed specifically to enable PCB developers in the video, commercial broadcast and telecommunications industries to transfer multiple RF signals across mated boards in a single assembly while taking into consideration space constraints. The RF DIN 1.0/2.3 Modular Backplane System features a unique bracket housing design, which enables an expansion capability of up to 10 ports for increased orthogonal PCB mating flexibility. The modular board-to-board system offers multiple options including a standard four port, 75 Ohm contact version or customizable six, eight and 10 ports with 50 Ohm contacts. The DIN 1.0/2.3 interface allows up to 1.00 mm of axial engagement tolerance.

Virtex-7 XMC and VPX Boards

4DSP LLC (Austin, TX) recently introduced the FM780 and VP780, two highly configurable modules with advanced digital signal processing (DSP) capabilities and multiple I/O options. The FM780 is XMC (VITA 42.3) compliant with a PCI Express Gen 2 interconnect while the VP780 is 3U VPX form factor (VITA 46) compliant. Both modules provide an FMC (FPGA Mezzanine Card, VITA 57) site and two 4DSP BLAST (Board Level Application Scalable Technology) locations that are closely coupled to the onboard Xilinx Virtex®-7 FPGA and 2GB of DDR3 SDRAM.

RF Transceiver Module

National Instruments (Austin, TX) has released the NI 5791 RF transceiver adapter module for NI FlexRIO, which is currently being used in 5G technologies. The module forms a software defined radio (SDR) solution when paired with an NI FlexRIO FPGA module for real-time, userdesigned processing. Through triggering mechanisms provided by the PXI platform, users can synchronize eight or more transceivers for MIMO and beamforming configurations. The module comes with FPGA digital signal processing (DSP) libraries and example architectures for common signal processing applications.

Texas Instruments (Dallas, TX) recently unveiled six new multicore System-on-Chips (SoCs) based on its award winning KeyStone architecture. These 28-nm devices integrate TI’s fixed-and floating-point TMS320C66x digital signal processor (DSP) generation cores with multiple ARM® Cortex™-A15 MPCore™ processors, facilitating the development of a widerange of infrastructure applications that can enable more efficient cloud experiences. TI’s six new highperformance SoCs include the 66AK2E02, 66AK2E05, 66AK2H06, 66AK2H12, AM5K2E02 and AM5K2E04, all based on the KeyStone multicore architecture. With KeyStone’s low latency, high bandwidth multicore shared memory controller (MSMC), these new SoCs yield 50 percent higher memory throughput when compared to other RISCbased SoCs.
