Meshing Software

Pointwise (Fort Worth, TX) has announced the latest release of its meshing software featuring new native interfaces to computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes. Pointwise Version 17.3 R4 also includes support for ESP, the Engineering Sketch Pad, an open-source, browser-based, constructive solid, CAD system from the team of Dr. John Dannenhoffer (Syracuse University) and Robert Haimes (MIT). ESP targets multi-disciplinary analysis and optimization (MDAO) by aiding computation of the sensitivity of objective functions (lift and drag, for example) with respect to design parameters (wing sweep, for example). Beam Steering Developer’s Kit

New Scale Technologies Inc. (Victor, NY) has a new beam steering developer’s kit for precise point-to-point beam positioning and dynamic scanning up to 100 Hz. The two piezoelectric rotary stages in the DK-M3-RS-U-2M-20-L developer’s kit have a galvo-scanner form factor but are only 12 mm in diameter. A closed-loop controller embedded in each tiny stage enables direct input of high-level motion commands from a system processor via standard digital (I2C, SPI, UART) or analog servo interface. Each smart stage rotates a pre-mounted aluminum-coated mirror +/- 20 degrees at up to 1100 degrees/second with angular resolution of 0.05 degrees (1 mrad).

Multicore Fiber Fanout

Optoscribe (West Lothian, Scotland) has introduced an ultra-low crosstalk option to its 3D Optofan series of multicore fiber fanouts. By controlling the 3D waveguide layout inside the component, stray light is minimized resulting in reduced crosstalk within the fanout of <-75 dB. The 3D Optofan series connects to Singlemode and Multicore Fibers and enables the transmission of high data rates over short and long haul distances. The 3D Optofan offers a broad flat spectral response with high throughput and minimal insertion losses. Robust packaging and product flexibility enables simple integration across a range of application scenarios.

High Definition Infrared Camera

FLIR Systems (Meer, Belgium) has announced the new FLIR 1030sc High Definition (HD) Longwave Infrared (LW-IR) camera. Coupling an extraordinarily sensitive detector, with new FLIR OSXTM Precision HD-ready optics, the T1030sc routinely detects temperature differences of less than 20 mK at 30°C. Able to record 1024 x 768 full frame video at 30 Hz on just battery power, and stream raw data at 120 Hz via a high-speed interface (HSI), the T1030sc functions as a stand-alone data collection and analysis system in the field or as a fixed-mount thermal measurement solution in the lab.

180-Degree FOV High Definition Lens

A new extra lightweight, 180-degree field-of-view (FOV) F/1.4, high definition fisheye lens for use in both commercial and defense applications has been released by Ophir Optics (Jerusalem, Israel). The new lens is compatible with both HD and VGA format for both 17 and 12m pitch FPAs of leading uncooled detector manufacturers. Designed to improve the existing 60- , 90- and 120-degree FOV lenses presently used, this lens weighs just 90 grams and can operate in extreme temperature ranges. The external optical surface is coated with (optional) high durability coating or Low Reflection Hard Carbon coating to provide durability in harsh environmental conditions.

SIP DC-DC Converters

Premier Magnetics (Lake Forest, CA) has announced additions to its PDCS family of self-contained, single- in-line-package (SIP) DC-DC converters for distributed power applications. The additions to the PDCS product family include two three-pin series. The first is the PDCS01x series, which contains nine models featuring regulated power outputs from 0.75 to 15 watts. They also offer nominal input ranges of 12 VDC and 24 VDC, outputs ranging from 1.5 to 15 VDC, and all are offered with a maximum output current of 500mA. Also being introduced is the three-pin PDCS04x series that includes 10 devices offering a similar range of input and output voltages as the PDC01x series, but with a maximum output current of 1000mA.

The MPMC’s SBCs are flexibly connected using a fully managed Layer 2 Ethernet switch and a PCIe backplane infrastructure. Contactless Connectivity System

TE Connectivity’s (TE) (Berwyn, PA) new ARISO Contactless Connectivity system, available from Mouser Electronics (Mansfield, TX), is a hybrid interconnect system that allows for both power and data to be sent over short distances without any mechanical contact between the two couplers. This permits easy connectivity through materials such as walls, fluids, dust, and harsh atmospheric conditions. Power transfer of up to 12W along with eight PNP channels can be sent between the couplers, which can move at an angle and be subjected to intense vibration without losing signals.
